Is A Vegetarian Diet A Healthier Way To Lose Weight?

Can you lose more weight if you don't eat meat?
My co-worker is a vegetarian. I was surprised to discover the reason that he doesn't eat meat at all. I thought when I asked him, that he would cite health reasons or animal respect issues. No, the primary reason that he doesn't eat meat is that he just doesn't like the taste. It is the same reason that I don't eat tofu and liver. My grandson doesn't like meat, either. Many babies don't like the texture. My co-worker also told me that he was raised as a vegetarian. So, now I wonder, is eating meat a learned behavior and do we really need it to be healthy? Can we lose weight better and healthier if meat is cut out of our diet? There appears to be plenty of evidence that suggests that vegetarian diets are healthier than a diet that includes meat. It has been said that a vegetarian diet can prevent, treat, or even reverse heart disease and it can also lower your risk of cancer.
Carnivorous Plants-Venus Flytrap
Carnivores
I enjoy a good steak. I consider myself an omnivore which means that I eat animals and plants. I have noticed that as I get older, I tend to eat less meat and more vegetables. Still, I am not quite ready to quit eating meat altogether. One thing I will not eat is veal because I do not like the way that they are raised for food. It is my own personal protest. I have listened to the arguments from vegans and vegetarians whom state that it is wrong to eat animals. I do not believe it is a moral or ethical issue, rather, I believe that it is a personal choice. Lately, I have been considering becoming a vegetarian so that I can decide for myself if I feel better with or without meat.
The video to the right explains a little about carnivorous plants. I think it is interesting that some plants are carnivorous and some animals are herbivorous. In the case of plants and animals, they eat what they are meant to eat. Humans have a choice. I respect the right of a vegan or vegetarian to make their own choice as much as I respect the rights of others to choose meat.
In honor of all the vegetarians out there, I made eggplant parmesan for dinner today.

Janiek, An interesting hub. We all have to decide what works for us. One of the hubs I read said there child who typically had 100+ seizures daily is not down to 10-15 seizures since going on the Atkins diet. So obviously there is something in the meat or protein that is helping her, or maybe she has severe allergies to some vegetables. The thing is the same answer isn't right for all of us. Great hub.
My daughter seems to go for carbohydrates and doesn't like any meat at all. Except from fish and eggs she doesn't have many other animal proteins in her diet. She is only 8, but her paediatrician assures me that she is eating what her body needs because she is growing healthy physical and mentally. So, maybe is right, your body knows best what you need!
mmm, eggplant parmigiana! My favorite! I'll tell you this, I made my choice to become vegetarian based on various ethical concerns, I never expected to lose 40lbs, or become a more active, fit and energetic person! These are a few of pros I've experience, as well as a clearer conscience. It's 5yrs and counting.. Interesting points.. good hub.

Great hub. Eating a healthy diet isn't rocket science and for most weight loss is a matter of burning more calories than we eat. It is easier said than done. Most of the folks that I know who are vegetarians are thin people. They also are active people. There must be a balance.
